From a determined scholar to a visionary leader, Mr. Michael L. Mahinay embodies the spirit of perseverance, service, and excellence that the Filipino educator stands for. Eight years ago, he was a scholar under the Philippine Business for Education’s STEP UP Scholarship Program—today, he is not only the President of STEP UP – 1000TP SAN Inc., but also the inspiring School Head of LNAS Extension Farm School in Saguing, Maria, Siquijor. His journey tells a story of hope, resilience, and the power of education to transform lives. With a deep commitment to agriculture, academic excellence, youth empowerment, and community development, Mr. Mahinay has become a beacon of inspiration for both his students and colleagues. His leadership reflects the essence of this year’s Buwan ng Wika celebration, which honors not only our national language and culture but also the Filipino teacher as a modern-day hero.


Educational and Professional Journey

Mr. Mahinay’s pursuit of knowledge is as remarkable as his passion for service. He is a proud graduate of the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, and completed his Diploma in Professional Education at Cebu Normal University. He further strengthened his leadership skills by finishing his Master of Arts in Educational Management and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration. Before embracing the teaching profession, he spent formative years as a seminarian at St. Alphonsus Collegiate Formation House, a Redemptorist Seminary in Cebu City—an experience that instilled in him the values of discipline, service, and compassion which continue to guide his vocation as an educator and leader.

Most Outstanding Teacher and School Head (IPCRF SY 2021–2024, OPCRF SY 2024-2025), in recognition of his unwavering dedication to student growth and academic excellence.


Most Outstanding Secondary School Gulayan sa Paaralan Implementer, highlighting his advocacy for sustainable agriculture and environmental education.

Mr. Mahinay is also the mind behind the innovation “STOP or Save Teachers’ Out-of-Pocket,” a project that supports teachers’ welfare. His action research on school–community partnerships through infomercials further reflects his vision of education as a shared mission with the community.

As a Guidance Designate and Career Guidance Implementer, he has guided countless learners in choosing meaningful life paths. As a Filipino Values Week Implementer and Personal Development Teacher, he has instilled patriotism, resilience, and a love for Filipino culture among his students.
